EMS INFORMATION
The South Line Fire District #10 exclusively provides around the clock Advanced Life Support (Intermediate Level) to the community. The Fire District has thirty four (34) Basic E.M.T’s, four (4) Advanced E.M.T. Intermediates, two (2) Advanced E.M.T. Paramedics. The District is serviced from a two fire stations, the main hall is located at 1049 French Rd, Cheektowaga and a substation at 40 Boxwood Ln. Cheektowaga. Each station operates one of two light rescue vehicles equipped with 12 lead cardiac monitors, Advanced Life Support equipment, and Basic Life Support equipment. The South Line Fire District #10 also operates a rapid response vehicle; the EMS Coordinator operates this vehicle. This vehicle is equipped with Automated External Defibrillator, Advanced Life Support equipment, as well as Basic Life Support equipment. Every year the South Line Fire District #10 certifies all three vehicles to New York State Department of Health requirements.

On average South Line Fire District #10 provides arrival of trained first responders to the scene of an emergency within three (3) minutes of dispatch. The population of the Fire District consists of approximately 12,500 residents, including three (3) Senior Housing Complexes, Bell Tower Senior Apartments, Violet Senior Housing. The South Line Fire District #10 also has five (5) large multiple dwelling residential communities, Idylwood Resort Apartments, Garden Village Apartments, Sandstone Court Apartments, Queens Park Apartments, and Kingswood Apartments

The South Line Fire District #10 is located in Cheektowaga, New York. The primary response area is about two square miles. The South Line Fire District #10 also provides fire and emergency medical services (EMS) mutual aid response to adjacent fire districts to support their operations. South Line Fire District #10 also utilizes mutual aid resources for both fire and EMS calls as may be necessary to provide first response coverage to the district. This is based on a dispatch protocol established for Cheektowaga Fire Control, to assure a timely response to calls for service. Rural/Metro Ambulance also provides Paramedic services and ambulance transportation for the Fire District.
In 2006, The South Line Fire District #10 responded to thirteen hundred six (1306) alarms, including five hundred eleven (511) fire responses and seven hundred ninety five (795) rescue and emergency medical services. Of the seven hundred ninety five (795) requests for emergency medical services, four hundred and sixty three were of an Advanced Life Support nature. Recent history indicates there will be a 10% to 30% increase this year in the total number of emergency medical services calls.

South Line Fire District #10 is applying to the State of New York and the Wyoming Erie Regional E.M.S. Council for Certification as an Advanced Life Support (Intermediate Level) First Response Agency. We have received the endorsement of our Medical Director, Anthony J. Billittier, IV, MD, local hospitals and our Mutual Aid agencies.

The South Line Fire District #10 operates under the regional protocols established by the Western Region Emergency Medical Advisory Committee (WREMAC). Personnel are trained in NYS Department of Health certified EMS training programs. Providers maintain their Certification according to the criteria established by the State. Additionally, providers demonstrate their advanced level skills twice each year in accordance with the guidelines established by WREMAC.

The South Line Fire District #10 EMS providers participate in a Quality Assurance program administered by the EMS Coordinator. Additionally, the Fire District provides regular training for members on topics relevant to EMS care and rescue operations.
